Self Assembled Monolayers at the Liquid-Solid Interface

Self Assembled Monolayers at the Liquid-Solid Interface

This animation was part of my coursework for a Seminar on 3D Modelling with Blender. Our task was to visualize the findings of the paper ”Self-Assembled Monolayers at the Liquid-Solid Interface“.

History

The animation was nominated for the Nanospots short movie award.

It was then part of a three month exhibition looking at DNA and the origin of life at the Deutsches Museum in Munich.

Technical Details

For this project we first explored various tools to visualize Molecular sturctures. We looked into using the popular library molecular Maya.

During pre-visualization we decided to use simple geometry instead. One of the bigger challenges was the ‘water drop’. Originally it was suppose to be a real waterflow simulation but the water was very hard to control - thus we went with a stylized water drop.
